IPL Business Value Grows to $16.4 Billion in 2024
The value of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a business has grown by 6.5% to $16.4 billion (Rs 1.35 trillion) in 2024, according to a report by American investment bank Houlihan Lokey. This growth underscores the league’s continued strength and widespread appeal.
Stand-Alone Brand Value
The report pegs the stand-alone brand value of the IPL at $3.4 billion (Rs 28,000 crore), marking a 6.3% increase from the previous year.
Franchise Valuations
Among the franchises, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) remains the most valued IPL team with a brand value of $231 million (Rs 1,917 crore), reflecting a 9% growth from the prior year. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ranks second with a brand and business value of $227 million (Rs 1,884 crore).
Significant Growth for KKR
IPL 2024 winners, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), experienced the highest growth, with a 19.3% rise from 2023. Mumbai Indians follow in fourth place with a brand value of $204 million (Rs 1,693 crore). Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad are valued at $113 million (Rs 938 crore) and $132 million (Rs 1,096 crore), respectively.
Title Sponsorship and Media Rights
Harsh Talikoti, Senior Vice President of Corporate Valuation Advisory Services at Houlihan Lokey, commented, “The IPL has solidified its status as a premier sports league on the global stage, showcasing an exceptional blend of sportsmanship, entertainment, and commercial success.” The Tata Group has secured title sponsorship for the IPL for 2024-2028 for about Rs 2,500 crore, a nearly 50% increase from the previous deal. This, along with last year’s media rights auction, highlights the IPL’s importance as a key platform for advertisers.
Revenue Increase
